The Sundae Best Ponies are a special subgroup of Generation 1 My Little Ponies, released in 1987 as part of Year Five of the My Little Pony toy line. What makes them unique is their scented bodies and painted symbols, which feature delicious dessert-themed designs such as ice cream, sundaes, and milkshakes.
These ponies were designed to appeal to children’s love of sweet treats, and each one was infused with a distinct fragrance corresponding to their theme. The Sundae Best Ponies’ symbols are not printed or sticker-like, but instead painted onto their bodies with a glossy finish, making them stand out from other My Little Pony figures. Each pony in this collection was given a pastel or candy-colored body and a mane in soft, sweet hues, reinforcing their dessert theme.
The Complete List of Vintage Sundae Best Ponies
One of the most distinctive features of the Sundae Best Ponies was their scented plastic, which matched their dessert themes. Each pony had a specific fragrance, such as vanilla, strawberry, or peppermint. However, due to the passage of time, many vintage ponies have lost their original scent, or the scent has faded significantly. Some ponies may still retain a faint fragrance, making mint-condition scented ponies highly valuable among collectors.

The book contains 86 pages full of detailed step-by-step guides, project features, material and technique comparisons, and much more. The book is mostly focused on My Little Pony Generation 1 (MLP G1). However, these techniques can be applied to all other generations, including MLP G2, G3, G4, and even G5.
This unofficial MLP guide to the first generation of My Little Pony (known as G1) was created by Summer Hayes. The book provides everything a collector needs to identify G1 ponies and their accessories, and understand their value.
