Sailor Moon (美少女戦士セーラームーン, Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn) is a Japanese shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi. It was originally serialized from 1991 to 1997 and adapted into an anime series produced by Toei Animation in Japan from 1992 to 1997. The series follows the adventures of a schoolgirl named Usagi Tsukino as she transforms into Sailor Moon to search for a magical artifact, the “Legendary Silver Crystal”. Sailor Moon was incredibly popular in the 1990s, and not just in Japan. The TV series was dubbed into various territories including the United States, South East Asia, Greater China, Australia, Europe and Latin America. The main creator and distributor of Sailor Moon toys in the 90s was Bandai. They released the popular Crescent Moon wands and a series of dolls that, although a little difficult to find in good boxed condition, are still plentily available. The first Sailor Moon doll was an Usagi created by Bandai for Japan in 1992. She had molded hair and gloves, a plastic choker, and legs that do not bend. In 1993, Bandai expanded the line to include ten new dolls, the Sailor Moon R series which now featured Mars, Moon, Ami, Jupiter, Mercury, Makoto, Venus, Rei, Minako and Chibiusa. These dolls came with few accessories and a transformation pen and were available in either Senshi Fuku (warrior sailor suit) or Sei Fuku (school uniform-like) outfits.

The Sailor Moon Adventure Dolls, released by Bandai in 1995, became popular due to their high-quality craftsmanship, detailed designs, and faithful representations of beloved characters from the iconic anime. Fans cherished these dolls for their accurate costumes, vibrant colors, and poseability, which allowed them to recreate scenes from the series. Collectors were drawn to their nostalgic value, as they represented a key moment in the ’90s anime boom.
The Sailor Moon lockets and jewelry boxes were some of the most cherished merchandise from the Sailor Moon series, especially in the 1990s. Written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi, Sailor Moon was serialized in the monthly manga anthology Nakayoshi from December 28, 1991 to February 3, 1997. The 52 individual chapters were published in 18 tankōbon volumes. The ones below are extra-long editions (about 300 pages each) published by Kodansha Comics in 2020. They feature a glittering holographic coating, an extra-large size, premium paper, French flaps, and a newly-revised translation.
