Princess Mononoke (もののけ姫) is considered one of Studio Ghibli‘s best productions, a masterpiece by Hayao Miyazaki’s team. It’s also my favorite Ghibli movie, so I’m guilty of having a rather extensive collection of Mononoke merchandise at home. Luckily, I’m not alone. What Makes Princess Mononoke Special: Princess Mononoke is set in the Japanese late Muromachi period (years 1336 to 1573) and includes several fantasy elements. It follows the young Emishi prince Ashitaka’s involvement in a struggle between the gods of a forest and the humans who consume its resources. The movie has some incredible visuals and stunning music, but what drives a lot of people to it is its compassion. Unlike many other films, Studio Ghibli shows both sides of the conflict. It’s ying-yang, where there’s good in evil and evil in good.
