Description

At times confusing (heck, even nonsensical), Grant Morrison’s Batman & Robin is filled with ideas, subtleties and twists that make for a complex and rewarding experience. Reading these comics is like peeling a dark, twisted onion.

The Dark Knight has fallen, sacrificing himself in the Final Crisis to defeat the ultimate evil, but now there’s a new Dynamic Duo in town. Dick Grayson, the original Robin, has taken up the cape and cowl of his former partner, and Damian Wayne, the assassin-raised son of Bruce Wayne, has become a deadly new Robin. This Robin, by the way, is particularly violent. But then again, so is the future Gotham in which this series is set. By the way, the new Robin, an arrogant 10-year-old, is both Bruce’s son and archvillain Ra’s al Ghul’s grandson.

Together, this masked Odd Couple must stop a rising tide of villainy whose savagery and brutality are unlike
anything the city has ever seen AND stay away from each other’s throats long enough to succeed.

Morrison charts the new team’s first missions, as Grayson strives to guide headstrong Damian while tackling foes old like the Penguin and new enemies like Professor Pyg and his Circus of Strange. To make it more interesting, complications arise from the reappearance of another former Robin, Jason Todd, the Red Hood— who battles crime even more brutally than the new Dynamic Duo.

This volume collects Batman & Robin #1-6. In the first three of the six issues, Morrison is joined by artist Frank Quitely, his collaborator on All-Star Superman.

This association makes for the most accomplished, enjoyable printed Batman stories in many a year. –Gordon Flagg –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
