Sandylion Sticker Designs was a Canadian company based in Markham, Ontario. They essentially ruled the sticker world back then, and their “prismatic” line—made from a micro-grooved, light-diffracting metallic foil—was the crown jewel of their inventory. Most kids didn’t buy these in packs. You went to a local card shop, pharmacy, or toy store where the clerk had giant plastic racks holding dozens of rolls. You’d pull out the exact number of squares you wanted along the perforated edges, and the clerk would snip them off.
Unlike basic paper stickers, the prismatic ones had a micro-engraved surface that acted like tiny prisms. When you tilted them in the light, they flashed a brilliant, moving rainbow spectrum.
Collector Tip: If you are buying vintage Sandylion prismatics online today, look closely at the backing paper. Authentic 80s/90s stock usually features the classic Sandylion logo (the little lion cub) or a specific grid pattern printed on the back.
Favorite Vintage Pearlized Stickers
Sandylion stickers were one of the best things about growing up in the 1980s or 1990s. Opening a sticker album and seeing those silver, rainbow-reflecting Sandylion prismatic stickers was the ultimate playground currency. And, while the company made everything from teddy bears to sports gear, certain designs were legendary. The prismatic shooting stars (like item 3 in the image), the peeling smiley faces (item 4), celestial moons and suns (item 7), and dinosaurs (item 10) were prized possessions.
You can find these and many other Sandylion vintage stickers in the list below. Feel free to use the images for personal projects!

Other Types of Vintage Stickers
When it came to collecting Sandylion sticker sheets, the texture and finish were everything. Collectors specifically hunted for three top tiers, which I will try my best to explain. At the bottom of the pyramid (easier to produce but still holding a very respectable quality) you had Kromekote stickers with no effects; just glossy paint. But there were three other types of vintage stickers we all loved: Fuzzy (with flocking or a velvety surface), Pearly (a holographic or iridiscent finish), and Prismatic (which looked like little crystals). You can learn more about them below or in the main Sandylion Stickers page.
Kromekote Stickers (Plain)
These were Sandylion’s standard glossy paper stickers. They were still cute, but definitely the “base layer” of a trading session compared to a rare fuzzy mod. Even though these stickers had no flashy effects, they are still highly collectible and beloved for their detail. See all >
Pearly Stickers (Iridiscent/Opal)
These had a gorgeous, milky, iridescent sheen that shifted in the light. They didn’t have the harsh glare of foil; instead, they looked like polished seashells. The pearly unicorns, ballet slippers, sailboats, and hearts were highly coveted. See all >
Fuzzy Stickers (Flocked/Velour)
These felt like soft velvet or felt. They usually featured cute animals like teddy bears, koalas, or little cats. Petting the sticker in your sticker album (or your intact squares if that’s how you collected them) was half the fun! See all >
More Sandylion Stickers
Fuzzy stickers had a layer of fuzz or flocking that made them quite a new and attractive option for sticker collectors. Pearly stickers had a layer of iridescence that produced all sorts of effects when held to the light. And Kromekote stickers were matte or glossy paper stickers. Here are some examples in case you’re not sure which is which:

Pearly Skiing Dinos
