The My Little Pony Generation 1 (G1) 10th Anniversary “Birthday Pony” was released in the early 1990s. By this time, My Little Pony had already cemented its place in the hearts of fans, combining colorful designs, whimsical stories, and an expansive toy line that brought ponies to life in homes everywhere. The anniversary didn’t just mark a decade of the toy’s existence; it celebrated the phenomenon it had become!
With a lineup of beloved ponies from earlier releases, special editions, and some new surprises, it honored the creativity and joy My Little Pony had spread since its 1983 debut. The animated series, books, and movies had contributed to the brand’s enduring charm, and by this point, it was clear My Little Pony was much more than a passing trend.
While the 10th Anniversary wasn’t a major global event, it symbolized how far the franchise had come and hinted at its staying power, paving the way for the next generations of ponies.
My Little Pony, launched by Hasbro in 1983, was a beloved toy line featuring colorful ponies with brushable manes and unique symbols, or “cutie marks,” on their flanks. Each pony had its own name and personality, from unicorns to earth ponies and pegasus ponies, inviting kids to immerse themselves in a magical world of friendship and adventure. The toy line was accompanied by animated specials, a TV series, and movies, making My Little Pony a cherished part of 80s and 90s childhoods and a timeless classic for collectors and fans.
The world of My Little Pony is… huge. We’re talking thirteen years of collections featuring all sorts of figures and toys! So, I’ve been working on creating smaller guides to help you navigate this wonderful pastel-colored world. Below, you will find (some!) pages with ponies sorted by year, collection (such as Birthflower ponies, Spanish Piggies, etc), country, and much more. I hope they help!
With 400 pages of G1 ponies, The Unofficial My Little Pony Companion is a deep dive into the world of My Little Pony and the people who created the line.
The book includes custom-made images of thousands of pony variants, graphics, beautiful illustrations, and, for the first time, a comprehensive list of ALL Nirvana (foreign) ponies shown and described in detail—as well as previously unknown details about how ponies were manufactured and distributed all around the world. Restoring My Little Pony is the result of almost three years of restoring and customizing My Little Pony toys for my channel RetroGeek Crafts. The book contains 86 pages full of detailed step-by-step guides, project features, material and technique comparisons, and much more. The book is mostly focused on My Little Pony Generation 1 (MLP G1). However, these techniques can be applied to all other generations, including MLP G2, G3, G4, and even G5.
