Surprise is a Generation 1 Pegasus Pony introduced in 1984. She features a white body with light green hair and a symbol of four red balloons. Known for her playful and mischievous nature, Surprise often enjoys startling her friends with unexpected antics. In the “My Little Pony ‘n Friends” TV series, she was a main character voiced by BJ Ward, frequently playing pranks and delighting in surprising others. Interestingly, the Generation 4 character Pinkie Pie was originally conceptualized with Surprise’s color scheme and personality, reflecting her enduring influence within the franchise.
In 1985, Surprise was re-released as a So Soft Pony, featuring a soft, flocked coating that added a tactile dimension to her design. This version maintained her signature colors and symbol, enhancing her appeal among collectors. Additionally, a Baby Surprise pony was introduced, sharing her mother’s color scheme and playful disposition. Baby Surprise starred in the second My Little Pony TV special, “Escape from Katrina,” further cementing the character’s popularity.
