Description

During the 1980s, these Care Bears minifigures, which were small collectible versions of the previously successful poseable Care Bears, were incredibly popular. They are made of PVC plastic and part of the original vintage collectible sets, and can still be found today. The miniature Care Bears had several variations for each character. I have listed these below!

Grumpy Bear is one of the most iconic original Care Bears, known for his grouchy personality but also his hidden soft side. He’s usually a blue bear with a belly badge showing a rain cloud with falling hearts, symbolizing that even when someone feels down or cranky, they still have love to give. Introduced in the early 1980s vintage Care Bears lineup, Grumpy Bear appeared in classic plush toys, miniature figures, and many of the animated specials and movies. He stands out because he shows that it’s okay to have bad moods sometimes, and that caring can come in different forms, even from the grumpiest bear.

Variants:

  • Grumpy Bear Variant I: Standing and holding an ice-cream cone.
  • Grumpy Bear Variant II: Sitting and holding a closed umbrella (?)
  • Grumpy Bear Variant III: Standing on top of a rainbow.

More Care Bears

The Care Bears first appeared in 1981 as charming characters designed for greeting cards. Each bear was meant to express a specific feeling or message—like love, friendship, or kindness—making them a perfect fit for a children’s brand centered on emotions and caring. As the cards quickly gained popularity, American Greetings expanded the idea beyond paper and licensed the characters to Kenner Products. In 1983, Kenner introduced the first plush Care Bears, bringing the colorful characters to life as cuddly toys.
