Now this is one for the dedicated boardgame geek. A box full of heaps on tiny components, and elegant rules which can create complicated and hare-brained panic in its players.
You’re trying to build a spaceship from all the available parts, and then make a trip with it. Across warzones, minefields, abandoned space stations and smuggler territory. Who said spacefaring was easy? In three rounds, each player tries to obtain as many galactic credits (points) as possible, without crashing their ship first. Or you know, getting adrift in space, losing half your ship or being captured by pirates, that is.
Crashing or failing in any other way in Galaxy Trucker is just plain fun. It isn’t about the destination: it’s the ride that counts. And a roller coaster one it can be. The game’s component quality is great, with nice illustrations and a dry sense of humour rounding out the rulebook. Was it already clear that Trucker doesn’t take itself too seriously?
Go forth and crash where no one has crashed before.
