Description
Now this game does take itself seriously. Encounters is an adaptation of the Legendary engine seen earlier in the Marvel superheroes version of the game. This one is, however, styled after the series of four Alien films.
The suspense is palpable: an elegant system of a semi-random set of face-down cards sliding toward the so-called ‘combat zone’ creates suspense like nothing else: is the next card an alien, or is it just Jonesy the cat scurrying around? Or is it a disaster? Or a facehugger?
Players cooperate to achieve three subsequent goals, each player having their own personalised deck of cards. Those decks can be fleshed out by acquiring character cards to add to it during the game: Encounters is a cooperative deckbuilder. Those characters are from each of the four movies, and each character has their specialties and weaknesses. But beware: a facehugger left unchecked will add a chestburster to your deck. And we don’t have to ask John Hurt what happens when you draw one of those: Game over, man! Encounters’ different set-ups allow you to play through the scenarios of each of the four movies, but also to create your own variations.
- The game includes 600 well-illustrated cards
- Some of the art is not suited to minors.
- Any fan of card games and the Alien(tm) franchise worth their money should try this one!
