The So Soft Ponies, introduced in Year 4 of the My Little Pony lineup, had a flocked coating that gave them a soft, fuzzy texture.
The So Soft Ponies were first introduced in 1985-1986, bringing a new layer of charm to the beloved My Little Pony G1 series. These ponies were unique for their flocked coating, which gave them a soft and fuzzy texture that made them very… cuddly!
The So Soft Ponies included a mix of familiar favorites and new characters, each retaining their distinctive colors, symbols, and personality traits. Unfortunately, the flocking on My Little Pony figures ages poorly due to a combination of factors related to the materials and environmental exposure. For example, as the adhesive weakens, the fibers may start to peel off or shed. Still, you can find plenty of second-hand MLP So Soft ponies online.
The So Soft lineup used various themes and designs, from adventurous explorers to nurturing caretakers. And although they looked very pastel and cuddly, their vibrant symbols and color schemes still shone through their flocking.
The flocking on My Little Pony figures, including the G1 So Soft Ponies, is made of tiny fibers that are applied to the surface of the toy to create a soft, fuzzy texture. These fibers are typically made from synthetic materials like rayon, nylon, or polyester. The flocked texture was more than just a design choice; it added a layer of nostalgia and collectibility, making them especially memorable for fans of the era.
