Vintage My Little Pony Year Three: Complete Ponies Database

Year 3 of the My Little Pony Generation 1 collection marked a significant expansion of the pony universe, introducing a lot of new characters and some unique designs. While the Rainbow Ponies dazzled with their colorful, streaked manes and tails, representing the vibrant magic of Ponyland, playsets, and accessories also brought the world to life in new ways.

Year 3 solidified My Little Pony as a beloved brand. So, let’s take a look at the different series and how they varied from MLP Year 1 and MLP Year 2

My Little Pony Year 3 Earth Ponies

Earth Ponies are the most grounded and realistic of all the My Little Pony types, closely resembling real-world ponies in their physical appearance. They have no wings and no horns. In Year Three, Earth Ponies were an essential part of the expanding My Little Pony line, featuring in several iconic releases, including Tootsie, Cherries Jubilee, Lickety-Split, and Posey.

My Little Pony Year 3 Pegasus & Unicorn Ponies

Year 2 of My Little Pony introduced a magical expansion of Ponyland with a dazzling lineup of Pegasus and Unicorn Ponies. The Pegasus Ponies of Year Three brought the magic of flight to Ponyland, with delicate feathered wings and graceful poses. For example, Surprise, with her white body and curly yellow mane, exuded playful energy, and Heart Throb, a pink beauty with a flowing pastel pink mane, was a romantic dreamer. The Unicorn Ponies introduced in Year 2 also brought a touch of mysticism and magic to the lineup, including Powder, Sparkler, and Gusty.

My Little Pony Year 3 Rainbow Ponies

The Rainbow Ponies introduced vibrant colors and magic to the My Little Pony lineup, featuring dazzling multicolored manes and unique symbols that celebrated joy and imagination. Each pony embodied whimsical themes, from the playful Tickle with her feather symbol to the celestial beauty of Starflower, whose stars shone as brightly as her personality. Exclusive to Germany, Nachtlicht (Night Light) and Regentropfen (Raindrop) expanded the Rainbow Ponies’ charm with their unique designs (both highly sought after to this day).

My Little Pony Year 3 Baby Ponies

The Year 3 Baby Ponies brought miniature versions of beloved adult ponies to the My Little Pony collection. Baby Firefly, Surprise, Blossom, Cotton Candy, Glory, and Moondancer captured the essence of their adult counterparts with adorable, smaller designs. Exclusive to Europe, Baby Applejack, Bow Tie, and Lemon Drop also added a rare charm, featuring vibrant colors and matching symbols that mirrored their grown-up versions.

My Little Pony Year 3 Sea Ponies (Adults & Babies)

The Sea Ponies brought an aquatic twist to the My Little Pony world, featuring sleek, seahorse-inspired designs perfect for underwater adventures. Ponies like Sea Breeze, Whitecap, and Sea Mist reflected the tranquil beauty of the ocean, while Wave Jumper, Sand Dollar, and High Tide captured its playful and mysterious side. These unique ponies added a splash of creativity to the G1 lineup, diving into the imaginations of fans with their flowing fins and seaside charm.

My Little Pony Mail Order Birthflower Ponies

The G1 Birthflower Ponies were a set of twelve ponies, each representing a specific month of the year. These ponies were released as special Mail Order exclusives. The most commonly available versions of the Birthflower Ponies featured a primarily white and magenta color scheme. In contrast, the Alternate Birthflower Ponies, which were more vibrant and varied in color, had a much more limited distribution. Both versions are highly collectible, with the alternate designs being particularly rare. Below you can see four examples. Click here to see the entire collection, including alternative versions.

(My!) My Little Pony G1 Guides

The world of My Little Pony is… huge. We’re talking thirteen years of collections featuring all sorts of figures and toys! So, I’ve been working on creating smaller guides to help you navigate this wonderful pastel-colored world. Below, you will find (some!) pages with ponies sorted by year, collection (such as Birthflower ponies, Spanish Piggies, etc), country, and much more. I hope they help!

With 400 pages of G1 ponies, The Unofficial My Little Pony Companion is a deep dive into the world of My Little Pony and the people who created the line.

The book includes custom-made images of thousands of pony variants, graphics, beautiful illustrations, and, for the first time, a comprehensive list of ALL Nirvana (foreign) ponies shown and described in detail—as well as previously unknown details about how ponies were manufactured and distributed all around the world. Restoring My Little Pony is the result of almost three years of restoring and customizing My Little Pony toys for my channel RetroGeek Crafts. The book contains 86 pages full of detailed step-by-step guides, project features, material and technique comparisons, and much more.

The book is mostly focused on My Little Pony Generation 1 (MLP G1). However, these techniques can be applied to all other generations, including MLP G2, G3, G4, and even G5.
